Lowered Standards: A Tribute to Senator No

OK, I tried to not comment on the passing of Jesse Helms.  Democrats and Republicans alike, can agree that the man was an easy target.  Poking fun at Jesse or coming down hard on his political career would be like shooting fish in a barrel.

Sometimes, you try to avoid something like paying bills, getting the toothache looked at, or going to the doctor to have that mysterious rash identified, only to have it come back to bite you.  Well this is one of those times.  The Jesse Helms death story has bitten me.  In all things humor is found.

As many of you know, I reside in North Carolina, Raleigh to be exact.  Here in my newly adopted home state, the Democratic Governor ordered that all flags on state property be lowered to half staff.  Everyone complied, with one exception, the head of the North Carolina Standards Laboratory refused to lower the flags outside his office and was forced into retirement as a result.  Jesse Helms dies and drags a liberal down with him, sounds fitting.

What (the FUCK!) Happened

Scott McClellan, Former White House Spokesman and Michelin Tire Baby

 Well I just got done reading the worst goddamn smear piece that has ever been written. Yes I’m referring to decades old What Happened by Scott McClellan. This eager patsy for republican fury is a misunderstood (and poorly written) account of fleshy faced Scott ‘bellen McClellan’s days at the White House. One thing that gets lost in the hysteria is that this book does not really throw a beating on our child-like emperor for his handling of the Iraq war. McClellan’s main beef seems to be the leaking of the CIA agent by Rove and crew.  

The problem with this as a hit job is that 80% of the book is spank material (e.g., PolitiPorn) for anyone still buying the confused hayseed routine from Bush, and don’t kid yourselves, McClellan wasn’t giving lip service to the boss. First off he slams Cheney, who would have been in charge of reading this book to the president, and besides, no matter how delicately Bush was treated in the book, he hates revelations (‘member what happens in Revelations).

So what’s trendy these days?  If we’re talking clothing, then I’m out of the loop because I’ve come to that point in my life where if I go shopping for clothes, I buy whatever is on the mannequin, no questions asked.  Oh, I do know that shorts are getting so damn long they may as well be pants.  Don’t get me wrong, I don’t want to return to the “Booty Shorts” days, but half way down the calf is a bit much.

Beyond the long shorts craze, it’s become equally fashionable to openly and publicly hate groups of people again, yippee!  To Hell with political correctness!  The main targets are now gays & Muslims.  Bashing followers of Islam and Judy Garland is in fashion and the haters are hitting the bigotry runway en masse.
